Another Success Story of CCS.

The Inter-Class Spelling Contest, 2017, was held at the old auditorium of the school from 11.15 onwards. Preparations for the last literary even in English, have been going on for sometime, since the week preceding the Mid-Term Examination when the students were informed about the event during the Assembly by the ToSD.
Notice pertaining to the Contest was put up on the General Notice Board for the information of all concerned last Monday (refer to the Notice attached herewith). 
ATTENTION!!!
This is to inform all concerned that the Inter-class Spelling Contest is to be held on the 12th of this month as scheduled. All the class teachers and the participants are asked to go through the rules stated below for the smooth conduction of the event.
Rules:
1.      Each class will be represented by ONE participant to be selected by the class teacher concerned.
2.      There will be three rounds. In the First Round, the Warm-Up Round, each participant will be asked to spell out ONE word.
3.      The Second-Round, the Jumbled-Up Round or the elimination round, will find the participants arranging the jumbled-up letters properly to find the right word. The participants are entitled to ask the Spell Master for the meaning, definition or the part speech of the word.
4.      In the Third and Final Round of the Contest, known as the Rapid Fire Round, each participant will have to spell out as many words as possible within two minutes.
For the Participants:
Ø  The Spell Master is not supposed to repeat a word for more than once.
Ø  While spelling out the word, each letter MUST BE uttered clearly and distinctly.
Ø  The decision of the Spell- Master will be final and binding.
Please note that the names of the participants are to be submitted by Monday, the 7th of August, 2017 to the Spell- Master at the latest. Here is looking forward to your continued support and cooperation as always and wishing everyone a pleasurable experience and success in the upcoming event.

The Contest opened to a jam-packed auditorium with Ms. Pem Zam, the Cross-Checker for the Show, inviting the audience for a short meditation as per the prevailing practice of the school. She then asked Lop. Jigme Lodey, the Spell-Master, to take over. The participants were called out one by one next. They were:
1.      IX A – Ms. Devika Chhetri.
2.      IX B – Ms. Kezang Choden.
3.      IX C – Ms. Neten Sherub.
4.      IX D – Ms. Priya Tamang.
5.      IX E – Mr. Yadu Kr. Chhetri.
6.       X A – Ms. Sherub Choden.
7.       X B – Mr. Arjun Rai.
8.       X C – Mr. Thinlay Gyeltshen.
9.       X D – Mr. Sacha Tenzin.
10.    X E  - Ms. Devika Chhetri.
11.   XI Arts A – Ms Ngawang Pelden.
12.   XI Arts B – Mr. Rinzin Penjor.
13.   XI Com A – Ms. Monita Mongar.
14.   XI Com B – Ms. Namgay Dema.
15.   XI Sc A – Mr. Birkha Bdr. Gurung.
16.   XI Sc B – Ms. Karuna Biswa.
17.   XII Sc A – Mr. Barun Rai.

The Spell-Master then reminded the participants of the Rules of the Contest. In the First and Warm-Up Round, each contestant was given 1 minute’s time to spell out a word. The speller was to get 10 marks for spelling the word correctly. Some of the words for this Round were: adjourn, anthropology, discipline, distraught, ephemeral, gargantuan, nark, harbinger, chef, recipe, ravenous, pseudonym, vocabulary, etc.
In the Second and Elimination Round, the participant was to unscramble the jumbled-up word. Each participant was given 1 minute to rearrange the word. Some of the words were:-
Artepesde (desperate), ncthamer (merchant), harce (reach), mwnao (woman), itusooln (solution), ebmoprl (problem), iheyeng (hygiene), neomibc (combine), utniafno (fountain), gnexoy (oxygen), abellir (liberal), kutrc (truck), closho (school), okuber (broken), oshea (house) etc.
In the Third and Rapid Fire Round, there were seven of the initial twenty one participants left in the fray, each one of whom, made it to the Final Round by dint of their performance in the first two rounds. Each of the finalists was asked to spell out as many words as possible within 2 minutes. For each correctly spelt word, s/he was to get 10 marks.
The Final Round started off with Ms. Tshering Choden of XII Arts B being asked to spell some of the following words:-
Exaggerate, knack, façade, prominent, philanthropy, misogynist, lieutenant, subtle, sycophant, catastrophe, honorary, embarrass, archaic, slaughter, saucer, knuckle, seize, appetite, appeal, arena, authentic, author, barrack, barrel, etc. She got 12 of the above words correct.
The next finalist, Ms. Devika Chhetri, IX A, had the following words to be spelt out:-
Bankrupt, canteen, consumption, democratic, diagnoses, grammar, estimation, dictionary, indulgence, inferior, infrastructure, interpret, judiciary, juvenile, phonetics, laughter, luxury, lunatic, melodrama, microphone, homonym, minimize, etc.
It was Ms. Phuntsho Wangmo of XE trying out her spelling prowess next. Some of the words she was asked were:-
Appreciation, geometry, monument, narcotic, pendulum, questionnaire, rampant, reminiscent, repetition, repercussion, rummage, sacrifice, marijuana, hierocracy, secretary, sergeant, shuffle, semester, sluggish, sophisticate, spectrum, speculation, sponge, etc. Ms. Phuntsho Wangmo spelled 9 of the above words correctly.
Mr. Sacha Tenzin of X D took the centre stage then. He was a smasher spelling out 20 of the words correctly. The words were:-
Squash, stammer, stereotype, strenuous, stringent, successive, succession, suspense, barbarian, theoretical, tremendous, ultra-sound, university, obedient, cobbler, competence, compartment, aggregate, aggression, accommodation, allegation, approximately, coward, casual, surgical, champion, etc.
The 5th finalist was Mr. Birkha Bdr. of XI Sc A.  The words he had as his share were:-
Queue, compensate, detection, disquietitude, detective, filthy, graduation, elephantine, activation, guardian, crunch, industrious, inertia, bureaucracy, accelerate, knack, façade, misogynist, catastrophe, honorary, etc.
The next participant and eventual winner, Mr. Barun Rai of XII Sc A, was simply outstanding in spelling 30 of the words given. Some of the words were:-
Archaic, seize, appeal, barrack, barrel, beautician, bankrupt, canteen, consumption, democratic, grammar, estimation, indulgence, inferior, interlocutor, intervene, juvenile, luxury, lunatic, luxury, homonym, minimize, monument, narcissism, narcotic, pandemonium, penetrate, polygamy, rampant, reference, etc.
Finally, it was Ms. Kezang Choden of IX B. Some of the words she was asked to spell out were:-
Dizzy, broach, hamburger, heptagon, hijack, hypnosis, hypothesis, inference, inflation, inquisition, intercept, mortality, opulent, oppressive, optimism, etc.
The final standing was:
1.      Mr. Barun Rai, XII Sc A – The SUPER SPELLER OF CCS FOR THE YEAR 2017.
2.      Mr. Sacha Tenzin, X D  -  The First Runner Up, and
3.      Mr. Birkha Bdr., XI Sc A – The Second Runner Up.
All in all, the Inter-Class Spelling Contest was a stupendous success, due mainly to the efforts and initiatives of the Spell Master, Mr. Jigme Lodey and the collaborative efforts of the members of the Department of English. It was, in the final analysis, another success story of Chhukha Central School.
